Program Information

Purpose: This Curriculum Guide is a suggested semester sequential plan for the Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Computer Science. Courses may be taken in any order as long as prerequisites and other requirements are met.

Students must complete all required courses with a minimum grade of C to meet program requirements. Students should review the Transfer Virginia Computer Science Pathway for the institution to which they want to transfer.

1. Refer to the college catalog to identify acceptable Uniform Certificate of General Studies (UCGS) courses. Arts/Literature options: ART 101, MUS 121, CST 130, CST 151, ENG 225, ENG 245, ENG 246, ENG 250, ENG 255, ENG 258, ENG 275. History options: HIS 111, HIS 121. PHI 220 is required by some colleges and universities. Students should review the Transfer Virginia Computer Science Pathway for the institution to which they want to transfer. Some university programs require literature in the second year.

2. Students and their advisors should choose the mathematics sequence required by the institution where the student plans to transfer. Most Computer Science programs require Calculus, so students should prepare to take those classes.

3. Students should consider the programming languages required by the university they plan to attend for transfer. Camp currently uses C++ for CSC 221 and CSC 222, and Java for CSC 223. Camp may be able to help students obtain the language they desire with appropriate advanced planning.

4. Refer to the college catalog to identify acceptable UCGS Social Science courses.
